California Equal Pay Pledge

The Office of the First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom is dedicated to furthering the cause of gender equity in California, and lifting up women and their families by ensuring that women can thrive both at work and at home. The first program that the First Partner launched in 2019 under her California for All Women initiative was the California Equal Pay Pledge, driven by a goal to turn the strongest pay laws in the nation into the smallest pay gap of the nation.

The California Equal Pay Pledge is a collaborative effort between the Office of the First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom, the California Commission on the Status of Women and Girls, the California Labor and Workforce Development Agency, and the California Partners Project.

Since the launch of the Pledge in April 2019, we have connected thousands of Californians to our educational equal pay resources, hosted roundtables, focus groups, and other conversations, and secured over 200 pledge commitments from organizations that collectively employ over 1.5 million people.

Employers that take the pledge commit to conducting an annual company-wide gender pay analysis, reviewing hiring and promotion processes and procedures to reduce unconscious bias and structural barriers, and promoting best practices that will close the pay gap to ensure fundamental equity for all workers.

Together, we are actively moving the needle forward towards creating an #EqualPayCA.

You can make a difference too. Join this powerful community of changemakers today.
